The UNWTO Academy is responsible for implementing the work programme on Education and Training of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), with the objective of supporting Member States in the formulation and implementation of educational policies, plans and instruments which effectively contribute to an improvement in the quality, competitiveness and sustainability of the tourism sector through excellence in education and training.

The UNWTO Academy, known previously as UNWTO.Themis Foundation, was founded on 3 June 1998 with the signing of an administrative agreement between the Principality of Andorra and the World Tourism Organization at the 58th Meeting of the Executive Council in Lisbon. The Principality of Andorra also became Member State of the Organization at this event.

The UNWTO Academy is governed by a Board of Trustees, made up of representatives from the World Tourism Organization and the Government of Andorra. UNWTO is responsible for the management and administration of the UNWTO Academy, which is based in the Principality of Andorra.
